Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
—Max Ehrmann—
We have been invited to share ourselves in this phenomenon called life. We are not fully cognizant of the value of our gifts to one another.
We don’t know which words we mutter might be the pearls of wisdom for another. However, we can be certain that we’ll show the way to someone else.
Each of us is acting as a guide for another, perhaps a friend, perhaps an enemy. Whenever the student is ready, a teacher will appear. we are all students. We are all teachers.
How reassuring to know that we have a story that counts in someone else’s unfolding. And it’s equally exciting to contemplate how another’s progress will nurture our own. But we need another’s attention in order to be certain that our movements are in the right direction.
I can be certain whose story I need most to hear today. I can only be attentive to them all.
