Promise of a new Day

Nobody can hurt you but yourself. Every experience you have makes you all the more fit for life. —“Box-Car Bertha”—

We commonly say,”she hurt me,” or “I’m afraid of hurting him.” Yet no one can hurt us without our cooperation. Other people’s actions don’t affect us unless we choose to let them; and no words can wound unless we turn them into weapons.
Some of what we call hurt is really learning. Because our pride may stiffen us against change, especially when we’re young, any learning that brings about a change in our behavior will hurt. As we learn humility, we bend more easily. And we learn not to accept pain from others.
All experience teaches us something, if we’ll learn. There will be pain along with wisdom; perhaps the price of wisdom is pain. But everything we learn enhances our life.
I’ll come to understand my pain and find its value for my life.
