Promise of a new Day

…The greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not our circumstances —Martha Washington—

A light heart eases a hard struggle. A sense of humor takes the sting out of troubling circumstances. Likewise, a hateful attitude takes the luster out of the brightest moments. We have the power to control the circumstances which will invite our involvement. Accepting responsibility for our own happiness frees us from others’ control. And it heightens our moments of pleasure. We are in control of the level of our joy and sorrow. In any situation we may choose to give others control over our feelings, but making that choice guarantees that we’ll live half-lives with little real happiness.

Knowing that happiness is always in reach if I extend my hand for it strengthens my grasp. I’ll practice taking charge of my own happiness today.
